Favorite Books

I don't read as much books as I would like, but when I feel like it and have the time, I will pick one up. When I start reading and it's a good book (in my opinion), I usually read a few pages (or more) every night before I go to sleep.
Today I would love to share 3 of my favorite books.
The first one is Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.
I picked this book up when I was in Paris and started reading it on our trip back home.
The book is about Toru Watanabe who takes you back 20 years in his life and tells the story about his 2 relationships. One with the beautiful yet emotionally troubled Naoko and the other one with the outgoing Midori. When Midori walks into his life he has to choose between the future and the past.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I recommend this to everyone who enjoys reading an evocative, entertaining, sexy and funny (according to Time Out) book.
The second one is Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay.
This book follows a journalist's in a present-day investigation into the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup
of Jews in German-occupied Paris in 1942. It tells the story of a young
girl's experiences during and after these events, illustrating the
participation of the French bureaucracy as well as French citizens hiding and protecting Sarah from the French authorities.
It makes you feel like you're actually there with Sarah and feel everything she feels. You experience the horror she experienced and takes your breath away by how strong she is and the love that this one little girl has for her little brother.
The only thing I want to mention is that sometimes it's a little hard to follow the story in chronological order because it switches from Sarah's story to the one from the reporter and back. But other than that, it's a definite must read book.!
The third one is East of Eden by John Steinbeck.
This book is about two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons, and their interwoven stories.
They will helplessly replay the fall of Adam and Eve and the murderous rivalry of Cain and Abel.
Steinbeck describes every little detail of the Salinas Valley and shows you the weak and strong points of every character.
I really liked the quote "Our species is the only creative species, and it has only one creative instrument, the individual mind and spirit of a man", which describes the book perfectly in my eyes.
I think this book is a little bit harder to read, concentration wise, because of the intense detailing, but definitely worth to put in the extra concentration and finish it to the end.
I hope you liked this post and maybe I got you pumped up to read any of these books?!
Let me know if you read one of these or any other book recommendation are welcome too.
